Calling all Christians- Homosexuals deserve "our" basic human rights too.

No matter what sexual preference you have, shouldn't everyone have the same basic human rights? Are you exempt, because you are a lesbian, a transgender, or gay? If Christianity does not agree with your supposed 'lifestyle choice", does that mean you are less than human in America, therefor undeserving of the basic human right to safety as the rest of us Christians?

Shane Windmeyer, director of Campus Pride, headquartered in Charlotte, NC posed this very question last Friday on Charlotte View. Campus Pride's mission (among others) is to hold colleges and universities accountable for the safety of it's LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) students. After all, these students pay the same tuition as their heterosexual counterparts. Heterosexual students and parents expect the college/university staff to do everything in their power to ensure their children's safety while there. No excuses. If they drop the ball, there is hell to pay. As there should be. At costs ranging $10,000 - $50,000+ per year to attend, safety is a reasonable request.

Rouge shooter killing people on campus? Parents and students demand tighter security. Rape occurrence in a dorm? Do something to prevent future occurrences or students pull out and the college feels it through bad press and their bottom line.

What if the rape or shooting is of a gay male or female? Do you, as a parent, change how you feel? Do you see it as - if you can't keep your students safe, then you will not get my money or my child? Or, do you....a Christian...say...that human being doesn't matter because they are sinners. You can have my money and my child as long as you protect heterosexuals. Sadly, yes, I have witnessed heterosexual parents declare this.

Really? Is that what Jesus would say? Snap that WWJD bracelet lying dormant on your wrist right now people! When did we loose sight of Jesus' basic teachings? When did, who someone is having sex with or the fact that they feel more comfortable dressing as a girl when their genitals say boy, cause us to turn our backs on our christian teachings and declare war? Doesn't the bible say we are not to judge others (before you remove a speck from some one's eye, remove the stick from your own)? Isn't "judging" God's job?

Lest we forget. And I digress....

Next time you hear of another despicable college campus shooting, rape, or any other equally hideous crime, please, don't stop caring because you learned the victim(s) was homosexual, transgender, or bisexual. Rise above such narrow minded thinking and remember that he/she was some one's daughter or son. Remember that, regardless of dress choice or sexual preference, there is a parent mourning the loss of their precious baby. Who, coincidentally paid just as much tuition as the heterosexual students to attend, and safety was a presumed requirement. Remember this, and stand in the 'picket line' of emails, signs, and phone calls to demand change from college/university administrators in using more tuition money to make the necessary changes needed to help ensure every student....EVERY student...is safe and sound while attending.
